Confidence
is a skill. Like any other skill it can be learned and
then practised in appropriate contexts. Clients who find
that developing new confidence is a central concern have
generally lost touch with this skill through circumstance
or through challenging and even traumatic events - or
perhaps have never developed it sufficiently.
Human
Givens therapists
working with confidence concerns will seek to
•
understand and deal with any past negative experiences
effectively and sensitively
•
find ways to ensure that current needs
are met as efficiently as possible
•
develop innate resources
and personal talents
•
work on specific and realistic challenges that will
develop new confidence
•
teach ways of relaxing and focusing that will form permanent
life skills as a platform for a constantly developing
confidence.
•
teach a realistic understanding of what confidence is
In
some circumstances where clients have had particularly
troubling or difficult experiences or have concerns
around phobias, fears and other stressors, the work
may centre initially on de-traumatising procedures,
so that the past can be left behind and automatic reactions
transcended. Dealing with other related issues may also
centre around past-related concerns initially, but in
general Human Givens therapists avoid dwelling on the
past and work is present and future focused. Many people
find the sessions both relaxing and enabling.
You
should expect to begin developing new ways to be confident
immediately. |
